Personalized number plates allow you to create a unique registration number, tailored to your style or preferences. These plates are issued upon application and payment of the required fees.

Required Documents for Number Plates

Standard Number Plates

  • Original NaTIS/Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC1)
  • Vehicle license disc (located on the windscreen)

Personalized Number Plates

  • Certified copy of the owner’s ID
  • Original NaTIS/Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC1)
  • Certified copy of the company proxy’s ID (for company or financed vehicles)
  • Completed application forms and proof of payment (processed through the registering authority)

Types of Personalized Number Plates

  1. Alphabetic Only (4–7 characters)
    Plates feature up to seven characters, including the province initials.

    • Example: ABCDEF GP
  2. Short Alphabetic (1–3 characters)
    Plates with three letters or fewer, based on your preference.
    • Cost Estimate: From R4812.00
    • Example: XYZ GP
  3. Alpha-Numeric Plates (Special)
    Plates include a combination of three letters and three numbers.
    • Cost Estimate: From R852.00
    • Example: XYZ 456 GP or 456 XYZ GP

Applying for Personalized Number Plates

Personalized plates add a unique touch, allowing you to showcase a business name, pet name, or a meaningful word. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Check Availability
    • Contact R.O.R.S.A. with your top three preferred personalized plate options.
    • We’ll confirm availability with the Department of Transport.
  2. Gather and Submit Documents
    • Certified copy of your ID
    • Original vehicle registration certificate
    • Proof of address (utility bill or affidavit if the utility bill isn’t in your name).
    • Residents of informal settlements can provide a letter with an official stamp from the ward councilor.
  3. Pay the Required Fee
    • Fees vary based on the type of personalized plate you choose.
  4. Collect Your Plates
    • Once processed, your personalized number plates can be collected directly on-site.
