Duplicate Natis / Vehicle Registration Certificate

Losing or damaging your vehicle’s original registration certificate can be stressful, and applying for a duplicate can feel like a lengthy process. Unfortunately, the Licensing Department requires the registered owner or title holder of the vehicle to apply for the duplicate certificate. Third-party applications or consent documents are not accepted. We understand this can be inconvenient, so we’ve provided the necessary information to guide you through the process.

  • Copy of the RC1/e-Natis Document (if available)
  • Copy of Owner’s ID (original ID card or green ID book)
  • Proof of Address (utility bill or bank statement)
    • If the utility bill isn’t in your name, the person who owns the bill must provide an affidavit confirming your address. The utility bill and a copy of their ID must also be included with the affidavit.
    • If you live in an informal settlement, a letter with an official date stamp from your ward councilor confirming your address is required.
  • Completed DRC Application (Application for Duplicate Registration/Deregistration Certificate)
  • Copy of the RC1/e-Natis Document (if available)
  • Copy of the Company BRN Certificate
  • Copy of Proxy ID
  • SARS Document confirming the company’s VAT number
  • Company Letterhead: A letter from the company that nominates a proxy and representative, signed by both individuals
  • Proof of Company Address (utility bill or bank statement)
    • If the utility bill isn’t in the company’s name, the bill’s owner must provide an affidavit, along with a copy of their ID and the utility bill
    • If the company is based at a home address, a company letterhead must confirm the owners of the premises, with their ID copies and proof of address
  • Completed DRC Application (Application for Duplicate Registration/Deregistration Certificate)

If your original vehicle registration certificate has been lost or severely damaged, you can apply for a Duplicate Natis / Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC1).

As we always recommend, it’s important to keep the original registration certificate in a secure location to avoid complications when needing a duplicate.

We hope this process goes smoothly for you and that your wait at the Licensing Department is as short as possible. Safe travels!
