Change of Ownership refers to updating the current titleholder information on a motor vehicle’s registration certificate and registering the new titleholder in the national traffic information system (eNaTIS). If you’ve purchased a pre-owned motor vehicle, you must complete a Change of Ownership (NCO) form with your vehicle registration.

When do I need to do a Change of Ownership?
You need to do a Change of Ownership if you:
- Purchased a pre-owned motor vehicle.
- Completed your finance term on a new or pre-owned motor vehicle.
- Are the recipient of a deceased estate.
Note: Your registration disc could be blocked if there are other unlicensed vehicles in your name or due to enforcement actions (such as traffic fines).
Change of Ownerships are handled in the following districts:
- Gauteng: Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Centurion, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park, Pretoria
After you’ve completed the change of ownership, ensure you register and license your motor vehicle within 21 days. Failure to do so will result in arrears and penalties.
